The identification of make and model should be regarded as a complementary application of number plate recognition. The number plates provide information enabling a unique identification of the vehicle. The identification of make and model provides additional information allowing the classification of vehicles and the indexation of video sequences. The technologies of vehicle make and model identification can be used in the public or private car parks. The principle is an automatic verification on exit that the make and model associated with the plate matches the entry data. The main aim is to combat fraud and vehicle theft. However, as a general rule, a simple matching of the grille (without reference to the make and model), i.e. a simplified version of the technology used for make and model identification, is enough to respond to this need. |

The Solution can be used for urban or semi-urban areas, or on motorways, and functions in all weather conditions. The information provided by this type of solution is more reliable than that provided by a radar, with regard to both the accuracy of the measurement, and the proportion of measurements which can actually be used. The system is also more discreet, more vandal-resistant and involves lower installation and running costs. Finally, as it provides an average measurement, it is more easily acceptable to the public
